Most of us have heard the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child.” The older I get, the more I realize how true this statement is and how it relates to much more than raising children. I have been involved with Charlotte County Habitat for 10 years, and the generosity of our community still amazes me. During our fiscal year ending June 30, individuals, businesses and churches joined together by donating and volunteering to make the dream of homeownership come true for 29 Charlotte County families. We are blessed to live in such a wonderful community. One business that helped make those dreams come true is T.A. Krebs Architect. Mr. Krebs and his staff have worked with Charlotte County Habitat for several years on various projects, but for the past year and a half they became more involved with our affiliate by donating their architectural services for every Habitat home built during that time. Mr. Krebs continues to partner with us, and we are extremely grateful for his generosity.

Charlotte County Habitat will be celebrating our 30th anniversary in August, and we are scheduled to build 30 homes by June 2018. The need for affordable housing is still prevalent. We have 25 approved families working through our homeownership program by taking their homeowner education classes and completing 300 hours of sweat equity. There are many ways you can become involved with Charlotte County Habitat. Volunteer opportunities are plentiful, ranging from swinging a hammer on a construction site, sorting and selling merchandise in our stores, filing and answering phones in our office or helping coordinate special events.

Would your church like to join our Apostles Build project or would your business like to become a Businesses Building Hope partner? When you choose to give of your time, treasure or talent to Charlotte County Habitat you are helping build a stronger community.

So see, it really does “take a village.” Thank you to everyone who supports our affiliate by donating and volunteering. We could not do it without you.  If you would like to become involved with Charlotte County Habitat, I would be happy to discuss our opportunities with you. I can be reached at 941-639-3162 or by email at gabrielle@charlottecountyhfh.org. Together we can make a difference.
