Meet the Lanning Family
Megan, Aidan (9),
Aribelle (7), Maverick (2)

Megan may seem familiar to you because she has worked at Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity as our Family Support Coordinator since November 2018. Megan helps many families work through the Habitat homeownership program. She encourages them to complete 300 hours of sweat equity, guides them through education classes and celebrates with them on closing day. It is her turn now… On behalf of our staff, board of directors and the families we serve, thank you for supporting the Habitat mission. Together, we can throw off the yolk of poverty and build a stronger community one family at a time.

Megan pays over $900 a month for rent for her and her children to live in a small 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home. As the sole provider, Megan works diligently to ensure her children’s needs are met. Megan said, “I am committed to my children. Having an affordable mortgage would allow me to provide them with everything they need. ”Megan is approved in the Habitat homeownership program, she has met the program requirements and is waiting for her home to be complete.

Our local affordable housing crisis has worsened and families are finding it harder and harder to afford a place of their own. Supply chain issues have created material shortages and rising construction costs; making it more and more challenging for us to build homes for qualified families like Megan’s. As we work through these challenges we need your help now more than ever. Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity is embarking on the “2nd Annual Home Build Campaign”. This campaign will run now through January 31, 2022 with a goal of raising $100,000. Donations raised in this campaign will go directly into  building homes for families in Charlotte County.

The Reverend Samuel Emerick, founder of Charlotte County Habitat, believed that providing families with safe, decent and affordable housing was the start to throwing off the yolk of poverty. Because of Sam’s passion and with the support of our community, Charlotte County Habitat has helped over 500 families throw off the yolk of poverty and achieve the dream of homeownership. Will you please consider making a financial contribution to the “2nd Annual Home Build Campaign”? Your gift will help change lives for families like Megan’s and the others approved in the Habitat homeownership program.

God Bless you,
Gabrielle Reineck
